Dior Ginza
Kumiko Inui · Tokyo, Japan · 2004
Dior Ginza is a compact but memorable retail building designed by Kumiko Inui. Its folded white metal façade gives the structure a textile-like softness, connecting architectural skin to the language of fashion. At night, integrated lighting turns the building into a glowing object, helping it compete visually with the dense commercial environment of Ginza without becoming purely graphic signage. The project is significant because it demonstrates a recurring Ginza theme: the flagship store as a small architectural manifesto. Instead of relying on size, the building uses surface, depth and luminosity to stand out. It is a useful addition to a walking route focused on how Japanese architects reinterpret luxury branding through façade design.
