Deichman Bjørvika

Atelier Oslo + Lundhagem · Oslo, Norway · 2020

Deichman Bjørvika is Oslo’s central public library and a major civic anchor beside the Opera House. Designed by Atelier Oslo and Lundhagem and opened in 2020, the building is organized around a large diagonal atrium that visually connects six public floors. Folded floor plates, generous stairs and daylight from multiple orientations create a continuous interior landscape for reading, making, events and informal use. Its projecting upper volume responds to the constrained site while giving the library a strong presence within Bjørvika’s dense waterfront redevelopment.
