Dancing House
Vlado Milunić + Frank Gehry · Prague, Czechia · 1996
The Dancing House places two contrasting towers on a prominent riverfront corner: a curving glass volume appears to lean against a more solid concrete tower with irregularly arranged windows. Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry developed the composition as a dynamic response to the nineteenth-century blocks around it rather than a repetition of their historic façades. Completed in 1996 on a wartime-damaged site, the building became a symbol of Prague’s post-1989 architectural opening and one of Eastern Europe’s best-known examples of deconstructivist commercial architecture.
