Cuadra San Cristóbal

Luis Barragán; Andrés Casillas · Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico · 1968

Cuadra San Cristóbal brings equestrian functions and domestic architecture into a composition of walls, water and carefully framed outdoor space. Luis Barragán, working with Andrés Casillas, completed the estate in 1968. Strong colour and controlled views establish a sequence that is both practical and ceremonial, with horses and their movement integral to the design. The project is most revealing through its changes in enclosure and the relationship between the large pool, stable buildings and surrounding landscape. Contemporary cultural use now provides controlled opportunities to experience the estate. Visiting: Access to the estate is controlled.
