Copenhagen Harbor Bath
PLOT / BIG + JDS · Copenhagen, Denmark · 2003
Copenhagen Harbor Bath is a small but influential public-space project from the PLOT period, before BIG and JDS separated into independent practices. Located along Islands Brygge, the project helped transform Copenhagen’s harbor from an industrial edge into an active civic waterfront. The wooden deck, swimming basins, diving platforms, and angular geometry create a playful interface between city and water. Its importance is larger than its size: it demonstrated how tactical recreational infrastructure could change the public perception of the harbor and support a new culture of urban swimming. For visitors, it remains one of the most direct ways to experience Copenhagen’s relationship between architecture, landscape, and everyday public life.
