J. L. Gleave’s monument uses a massive cross-shaped plan and long stepped elevations to create a ceremonial landscape. The building combines memorial, exhibition and symbolic lighting functions, giving the architecture an unusually large scale within Santo Domingo Este. Visiting: A small entrance fee applies; the cross-shaped monument can be seen freely from the surrounding park.
