Clyfford Still Museum

Allied Works Architecture / Brad Cloepfil · Denver, United States · 2011

The Clyfford Still Museum uses textured concrete, carefully controlled daylight and a sequence of galleries to provide a concentrated setting for one artist's work. Allied Works organized the building as a measured progression from lower arrival spaces to upper exhibition rooms. Opened in 2011, it offers a quiet counterpoint to the more conspicuous forms of the neighbouring Denver Art Museum. Pay particular attention to the filtered overhead light and the changing relationship between enclosed galleries, terraces and the surrounding city. Visiting: Regular museum admission is ticketed, with concessions and free days.
