Chor Minor
Traditional Bukhara builders · Bukhara, Uzbekistan · 1807
Chor Minor is recognized by four small towers rising above a compact historic building. Its unusual composition stands within the finer-grained fabric of Bukhara rather than a vast ceremonial square. The contrast between the modest enclosed volume and the four vertical elements gives the monument a distinctive architectural identity. Visiting: A small fee applies to climb to the roof; the four minarets can be seen freely from the lane outside.
