Chillida Leku
Eduardo Chillida; Luis Peña Ganchegui · Hernani, Spain · 2000
Chillida Leku places Eduardo Chillida's sculptures in a landscape of trees, lawns and shifting views around the restored Zabalaga farmhouse. The museum opened in 2000, bringing together the artist's work and the architectural contribution of Luis Peña Ganchegui to the farmhouse's adaptation. Heavy steel and stone pieces are encountered at walking pace rather than in a tightly ordered gallery sequence. The historic building provides a different scale of enclosure for smaller works. The visit is most revealing when approached as a continuous relationship between sculpture, ground, vegetation and the changing distance between objects. Visiting: Admission covers the sculpture landscape and accessible museum spaces.
