Changdeokgung

Joseon royal workshops · Seoul, South Korea

Changdeokgung fits palace buildings, courts and garden spaces into a landscape whose topography remains a major organizing force. The ensemble developed through successive royal campaigns and later restoration. Its architecture is experienced through changing relationships between enclosed courts, timber halls and the more informal landscape beyond. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; the Secret Garden (Huwon) requires a separate guided-tour ticket.
