Chand Baori creates an extraordinary stepped landscape within a deep rectangular enclosure. Repeated flights of stairs form geometric patterns as they descend towards the water, while built rooms and galleries occupy one side. The contrast between repetition, depth and changing shadow makes the stepwell's practical function inseparable from its architectural character. Visiting: A small entry fee applies; visitors view the stepwell from the surrounding galleries.
