Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci

Italo Gamberini · Prato, Italy · 2016

Centro Pecci combines Italo Gamberini's late twentieth-century museum with a major expansion by Maurice Nio. The newer work wraps the original complex with a metallic ring-like volume and a projecting entrance canopy, creating a more visible civic address along Prato's suburban boulevard. Inside, galleries, archives, performance space and public facilities support a broad contemporary-art program. The addition deliberately contrasts with the earlier angular concrete forms while reorganizing access and circulation between old and new. The record uses the 2016 reopening as its date and treats the work as a renovation and expansion of the museum inaugurated in 1988.
