UC Innovation Center Anacleto Angelini

ELEMENTAL / Alejandro Aravena · Santiago, Chile · 2014

ELEMENTAL reverses the conventional glass office tower by placing a massive concrete perimeter on the exterior and concentrating larger openings at strategic communal spaces. Deep window recesses reduce solar gain while monumental interior voids encourage visual connection between research teams and shared programs. The building demonstrates Alejandro Aravena’s interest in environmental performance achieved through basic architectural decisions rather than applied technological systems. Its heavy carved volume has become a recognizable landmark of the UC San Joaquín campus.
