Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center
Rogelio Salmona · Bogotá, Colombia · 2008
Rogelio Salmona’s final major work turns a bookstore and cultural center into a continuation of Bogotá’s historic public realm. Curving brick walls, ramps, terraces and a circular open-air court negotiate the steep corner site while creating multiple paths through the building. Rather than imitate neighboring colonial architecture, Salmona responds through scale, material and carefully framed views. The result is an unusually porous cultural building in which circulation becomes a sequence of urban rooms.
