Central Post Office of Costa Rica
Luis Llach · San José, Costa Rica · 1917
The Central Post Office is one of San José’s most recognizable early-twentieth-century public buildings. Its symmetrical stone-colored façade, corner towers, arches and elaborate ornament give the communications institution a monumental civic identity. Designed by Luis Llach, the building reflects a period in which postal and telegraph infrastructure was represented architecturally as a symbol of national modernization. It remains an active urban landmark and an important component of the historic center’s institutional fabric.
