Central Embassy

AL_A · Bangkok, Thailand · 2014

Central Embassy combines a luxury retail podium and hotel tower in a continuous, twisting mass. AL_A developed the form from two interlocking volumes whose silver shingles catch Bangkok's changing light and soften the scale of the large commercial program. At street level, the building negotiates a constrained urban site and direct connections to the elevated transit and neighboring developments. Inside, a sequence of curved atria and terraces organizes circulation around the retail floors before the volume narrows into the tower. The project is a prominent example of Bangkok's twenty-first-century high-end mixed commercial landscape and is notable for treating envelope, massing and interior void as one continuous architectural system.
