Centennial Bridge

Miguel Rosales / T.Y. Lin International · Panama, Panama · 2004

The Centennial Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing of the Panama Canal designed to provide a second major road connection across the waterway. Two tall pylons support a long, visually lightweight deck that passes high above canal traffic and the Gaillard Cut. Its structural form is deliberately legible, with the fan of cables becoming the principal architectural expression. The bridge is significant as a contemporary piece of national infrastructure designed around the extreme clearance and navigation requirements of an operating interoceanic canal.
