Glass House

Lina Bo Bardi · São Paulo, Brazil · 1951

Designed by Lina Bo Bardi as her own residence, Casa de Vidro places its principal living level on slender pilotis above the sloping Morumbi site. A transparent glazed volume opens the domestic interior to the surrounding vegetation, while a more solid rear wing contains private and service spaces. The house is an early manifesto of Bo Bardi’s ability to combine European modernism with the Brazilian landscape and later became the home of the Instituto Bardi.
