Casa das Histórias Paula Rego
Eduardo Souto de Moura · Cascais, Portugal · 2009
Casa das Histórias Paula Rego uses red-pigmented concrete and two pyramidal volumes to give an art museum a clear identity within a planted site in Cascais. Eduardo Souto de Moura completed the building in 2009, combining domestic references with the scale and technical needs of contemporary galleries. The plan organizes a sequence of rooms around circulation and service elements without turning every exhibition space into a sculptural object. The exterior volumes are most revealing when seen among the trees, where their colour and geometry establish a strong relationship with the surrounding green landscape. Visiting: The museum normally requires a ticket. Check exhibitions and free admission arrangements.
