Curutchet House
Le Corbusier · La Plata, Argentina · 1953
Casa Curutchet is Le Corbusier’s only built work in South America and a compact demonstration of his mature architectural principles. The house inserts a ramp, pilotis, roof terrace, brise-soleil and double-height living space into a narrow urban lot facing a park. A central courtyard mediates between the medical office at the front and family residence behind. Its importance lies in adapting Corbusian spatial ideas to an existing Argentine city block rather than a freestanding ideal site.
