Carlton Cannes
Charles Dalmas; Marcellin Mayère · Cannes, France · 1911
The Carlton Cannes is one of the defining Belle Époque hotel façades of La Croisette. Built in the early twentieth century, the building combines monumental symmetry, corner domes, rhythmic balconies and a grand seafront presence that helped establish Cannes as a luxury resort city. Its architecture is important not only as a hotel, but as a piece of urban scenography: the façade frames the promenade and performs the image of Riviera glamour. Following a major twenty-first-century renovation, the historic shell and public identity of the building remain central, while the interior and rear extensions adapt the hotel to contemporary hospitality standards.
