Chapel of Man

Oswaldo Guayasamín · Quito, Ecuador · 2002

The Capilla del Hombre was conceived by artist Oswaldo Guayasamín as a monumental cultural space dedicated to the history and struggles of the peoples of Latin America. A massive geometric volume, central ceremonial space and controlled natural light give the building a solemn, almost archaeological character. The architecture forms part of the Guayasamín Foundation complex overlooking Quito and is inseparable from the murals and artworks it contains, making it a distinctive framework for regional cultural identity.
