Calgary Central Library
Snøhetta + DIALOG · Calgary, Canada · 2018
Calgary Central Library spans an active light-rail line with a curving timber-lined entry that draws pedestrians beneath the building into a large central atrium. Snøhetta and DIALOG organize quieter reading spaces toward upper levels while more active public programs occupy the base. The faceted façade uses alternating transparent and opaque panels to modulate daylight and views. Opened in 2018, the building has become a major civic anchor in East Village and a strong contemporary example of the library as open, connected public infrastructure.
