Boudhanath Stupa

Newar Buddhist builders · Kathmandu, Nepal

Boudhanath's great stupa forms the centre of a tightly connected urban and religious landscape. Its white dome, square tower and surrounding circular route organize movement around a sacred focus. Shops, monasteries and public activity at the edge make the monument inseparable from the living district that has developed around it. Visiting: The tourist entry arrangements can differ for foreign visitors and local worshippers. The main experience follows the public circumambulation route.
