National Library of Argentina

Clorindo Testa + Francisco Bullrich + Alicia Cazzaniga · Buenos Aires, Argentina · 1992

The National Library is organized around a radical inversion: major reading spaces are lifted high above the ground while book storage occupies deep subterranean levels. The suspended concrete mass frees much of the site as public landscape and gives the building its unmistakable brutalist silhouette. Designed in the early 1960s but completed decades later, the library combines monumental infrastructure with elevated views across Buenos Aires and remains one of Clorindo Testa’s defining works.
