Bharat Bhavan

Charles Correa · Bhopal, India · 1982

Bharat Bhavan steps into a sloping site above Bhopal's Upper Lake. Charles Correa uses courtyards, terraces and partly embedded rooms to organize galleries and performance spaces around open sky. The building makes the lake and changing ground levels part of the cultural programme, with routes that move between intimate rooms and broad outdoor views. Visiting: A small entry fee applies; the stepped terraces overlooking the Upper Lake are part of the visit.
