Berlin Philharmonie

Hans Scharoun · Berlin, Germany · 1963

Hans Scharoun arranged the auditorium around the orchestra rather than placing the stage at one end. Terraced seating and an irregular golden exterior express a different relationship between performers and audience, with circulation spaces unfolding around the central hall. Visiting: Concerts are ticketed, but free lunchtime concerts are held in the foyer on many Tuesdays during the season, and guided tours run daily.
