Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch
Bio-architecture Formosana / Ying-Chao Kuo + Ching-Hwa Chang · Taipei, Taiwan · 2006
Taipei Public Library’s Beitou Branch is a timber-rich library set within a lush park beside the Beitou Hot Spring Museum. Deep balconies, large operable windows, roof overhangs and extensive natural ventilation give the building a more domestic and landscape-oriented character than a typical urban library. Bio-architecture Formosana used daylight, shading and environmental systems as visible parts of the architectural concept. Opened in 2006, the branch became widely known as an early Taiwanese example of green public architecture and demonstrates how a small civic building can make climate and outdoor space central to everyday use.
