Basilica of San Miniato al Monte

Unknown medieval Florentine workshop · Florence, Italy · 1018

San Miniato's geometric marble facade and timber-roofed basilican interior form one of Florence's clearest pre-Renaissance precedents for later ideas of proportion and polychromy. Its elevated setting above Piazzale Michelangelo also makes the approach, cemetery and panoramic urban relationship part of the architectural experience.
