Barcelona Design Museum
MBM Arquitectes · Barcelona, Spain · 2014
The Disseny Hub building by MBM Arquitectes gives Barcelona's design collections a shared home at Plaça de les Glòries. Its projecting upper volume and partly sunken accommodation mediate between a large transport landscape and the public spaces around the square. The museum opened in 2014, bringing together collections of objects, textiles, decorative arts and graphic design. The building's significance lies partly in this relationship between a specialized cultural programme and a changing urban junction. Read it together with Torre Glòries and the redesigned public landscape rather than as an isolated sculptural object. Visiting: Museum exhibitions may require a ticket. Public foyer access differs from exhibition admission.
