Baitul Mukarram

Abdulhusein M. Thariani · Dhaka, Bangladesh · 1968

Baitul Mukarram gives a national congregational mosque an unusually geometric modern form. Its central prayer volume avoids the conventional dominance of a large dome, relying instead on mass, openings and a clear cubic composition. The building and its surrounding spaces connect worship with the dense commercial environment of central Dhaka. Visiting: A religious site. Basic access is normally free, with local worship, dress and photography restrictions; additional visitor attractions can be charged.
