Bahrain World Trade Center
Atkins · Manama, Bahrain · 2008
The Bahrain World Trade Center pairs two sail-like office towers connected by three large horizontal wind turbines. Atkins shaped the towers to funnel prevailing Gulf winds toward the turbines, integrating renewable-energy generation into the building’s public identity rather than treating it as hidden equipment. A commercial podium links the towers at street level while the tapered forms create a distinctive presence on Manama’s waterfront skyline. Completed in 2008, the project became an early high-profile demonstration of incorporating large-scale wind generation directly into skyscraper architecture.
