Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer
Oscar Niemeyer · Ravello, Italy · 2010
The Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer introduces a bold modern architectural gesture into Ravello’s historic and landscape-focused setting. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the building uses a white curved concrete volume to create an auditorium that appears both sculptural and lightweight against the hillside. Its form contrasts with the medieval villas and stone fabric of Ravello, yet it continues the town’s long association with music and cultural performance. The project is significant because it raises questions about contemporary intervention in sensitive heritage landscapes: rather than imitate local forms, it uses abstraction, curvature, and landscape orientation. It is one of the Amalfi Coast’s clearest examples of modern architecture as a cultural landmark.
