Ashdod Art Museum
Moshe Lufenfeld; Rafi Segal, Eyal Weizman & Manuel Herz (museum adaptation) · Ashdod, Israel · 2003
The Ashdod Art Museum occupies the upper level of the Monart cultural center in Ashdod. The Monart building was designed by architect Moshe Lufenfeld and built in 2000; before the museum opened in 2003, its exhibition spaces underwent structural adaptation by architects Rafi Segal, Eyal Weizman and Manuel Herz. The museum is marked externally by the glazed pyramidal roof above the complex and internally by gallery spaces inserted into the larger cultural-center structure. This layered history is important architecturally: the museum is not a standalone Haim Dotan building, but an adaptation within Lufenfeld’s Monart complex.
