Hiroshi Naito's station uses an immense timber-lined roof and carefully detailed concrete structure to make a railway interchange feel civic and warm. Large windows open the concourse toward the Chubetsu River and the city, while locally sourced Hokkaido timber gives the interior an unusually tactile character for infrastructure.
