Ara Pacis Museum

Richard Meier & Partners · Rome, Italy · 2006

Richard Meier's glass, travertine and plaster enclosure was designed to protect the ancient Ara Pacis while inserting a distinctly contemporary civic interior into central Rome. Its long glazed wall, controlled daylight and sequence from street to altar make it especially useful as a study in how new architecture negotiates a monumental historic setting.
