Studio Gang's Aqua Tower transforms a regular high-rise programme through the changing edges of its balconies. Completed in 2009, the building's projecting floor plates create an undulating outer surface around a more conventional enclosed tower. Apartments, hotel rooms and other uses share this continuous silhouette. Viewed from nearby streets, the overlapping balcony lines change with distance and angle, demonstrating how repeated structural floors can produce a varied façade while also providing outdoor space and some shading to individual rooms.
