Allianz Arena

Herzog & de Meuron · Munich, Germany · 2005

Herzog & de Meuron wrapped the stadium in inflated facade panels that can change its appearance through lighting. The continuous exterior gives the large seating bowl a unified identity, while the surrounding arrival spaces handle the transition from urban transport to major events. Visiting: Stadium tours and the FC Bayern Museum are paid; on match nights the facade is lit in club colours. The area around the stadium is free to walk.
