Aga Khan Museum
Fumihiko Maki · Toronto, Canada · 2014
Fumihiko Maki’s Aga Khan Museum is a restrained white-granite composition organized around a luminous central courtyard. Precisely cut openings and subtly faceted surfaces respond to changing daylight, while interior galleries and public spaces frame views toward the surrounding formal garden. The calm geometry contrasts with the expressive forms of many contemporary museums and gives the institution a deliberately contemplative character. Opened in 2014, the museum forms part of a larger cultural landscape with the Ismaili Centre and Aga Khan Park.
